The Adventure of Mr. Kim and Mr. Lee
“The Adventure of Mr. Kim and Mr. Lee” by Chung Seo Young begins in the form of drawing and installation, then transforms into performing arts. In her past projects, Chung has created a strange landscape of language, object, and our human condition in everyday life represented with cold humour. Her approach makes these elements into strange (uncanny) multiscapes by combining aspects of the sculptural and the everyday objects. Her interest expands as to encompass the issues surrounding the incommensurability between linguistic operation (as a semiotic system) and reality (as a lived experience). If she has so far revealed the chasm between the symbolic and the real by examining the structured meanings, now she pushes the boundaries of her artistic interests and attitude by taking a form of theatrical performance. A unserious seriousness, meaningless meaning, and a humorless humor demonstrated in previous sculptures, installations, drawings all integrates in this performance with the living objects in the theater space- on site.
Mr. Kim 과 Mr. Lee의 모험
작가 정서영의 은 드로잉과 설치 작업으로 출발하여, 공연 형식으로 변형되는 프로젝트이다. 정서영은 언어와 사물 그리고 우리가 경험하는 상황에 대한 냉정한 유머들을 생경한 풍경으로 창조해왔다. 이러한 그의 관심은 조각적인 것과 사물적인 것과 ‘그 사이’에 대한 탐구에서, 추상적 기호체계인 언어의 작동과 구체적인 삶이라는 실재 사이의 빗나감 등에 이르기까지 우리가 경험하는 모든 상황으로 확장된다. 그는 언제나 사회가 구축해온 의미체계를 산책하며, 그 체계의 틈과 잉여의 상태를 경쾌하게 드러내왔다. 이제, 정서영은 에서 공연예술형식을 빌어 자신의 관심과 태도를 확장한다. 작가가 지금까지 조각, 설치, 드로잉 등을 통해서 보여주었던 진지하지 않은 진지함, 싱겁지 않은 싱거움, 유머없는 유머 등은 극장이라는 공간 속에서 자신의 살아있는 오브제들과 같이 작동된다.

god save the mona lisa
노말타입은 2010년 두 번째 행사로 6명의 젊은 작가를 초대, 전시를 개최한다. 이번 전시 제목은 Fantastic Plastic Machine의 2001년도 앨범, "Beautiful"에 수록된 동명의 곡에서 따왔다. 이 곡은 Fantastic Plastic Machine 혹은 Tomoyuki Tanaka에 의해서 Marcel Duchamp과 Ono Yoko에 헌정된 노래이다. Marcel Duchamp은 인쇄된 모나리자에 수염을 그려 넣었으며, Ono Yoko는 자신의 아티스트 북, “Grapefruit”에서 모나리자를 미술관에서 훔쳐서 연처럼 하늘에 날리고 싶다고 이야기했다. 이 모든 퍼포먼스는 현대 미술 혹은 개념 미술에 대한 어떤 도발의 단면을 드러낸다.

‘나눔 - 불법적인 것을 위한 실험’ 의 마지막 행사, 불법적 비평이 9월 21일 오후 6시 기무사에서 진행되었습니다. 이번 프로그램은 전시참여 작가 중 한명을 노말 타입이 선정하여, 그 작가와 함께 본인의 작품과 더불어 다른 작가의 작업 그리고 전시 전반에 걸쳐 비공식적 이야기를 나누는 것으로 기획되었습니다.

‘나눔 - 불법적인 것을 위한 실험’ 의 세번째 행사, 불법적 강독이 9월 19일 오후 7시 기무사에서 진행되었습니다. ‘불법적 강독’은 강독이 불법적이라기 보다는, 강독을 위한 텍스트의 취득이 불법적이었다는 것을 의미합니다.

‘나눔 - 불법적인 것을 위한 실험’ 의 두번째 행사, 불법적 전시투어가 9월 12일 오후 8시 30분 기무사에서 진행되었습니다. '불법적 전시투어'는 이번 행사의 적합한 타이틀은 아닙니다. 오히려 '불법적 지위에 처한 사람들을 위한 전시투어' 가 보다 적합한 표현일 것입니다.

나눔 - 불법적인 것을 위한 실험' 의 첫번째 행사, 불법적 영화상영이 9월 12일 오후 7시 기무사에서 진행되었습니다. 오전과 오후에 갑작스럽게 내린 비로 '파란사각하늘'은 임시 철수되었지만, 어두운 밤으로 향하는 열린 하늘 속에서 알랭 르네의 '밤과 안개'는 상영되었습니다.
